“Hi Centretown, my name is Sarah.

I’m the owner of Gumption Studio.

I used to be a chef in Centretown and now I’m a photographer and I’ve worked with many restaurants in the area.

Since having a baby, I’m essentially starting from scratch.

I’ve redone my website, yeah and essentially getting all new clients.

It’s a challenge that a lot of people don’t talk about.

My world revolves around this little guy.

I feel like I’m starting over again because I’ve had time to stop and think, decide what my niche is, hone in on what I really want to do.

Having Ash has really given me the time, has given me the time to think about this and yeah really get excited about being creative again and working with cool restaurants in Centretown.

I definitely want to normalize moms who have businesses or moms in general working when they have a child.

It’s not easy but it’s something that you just have to do and yeah it’s it’s a challenge but if everybody comes together and talks about it we might be able to support each other through a really hard time to be completely honest but a time where it kind of pushes you to be the best version of yourself.

So it’s definitely not an easy subject to tackle in 90 seconds but if anyone wants to reach out and chat about having a child and working, I’m here for you, we can definitely chat about it.”

more Stories of People

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
