“Hi, my name is Samuel Coeytaux.

I’m the director of the Alliance Française of Ottawa.

We’re here located at the heart of Centretown on MacLaren Street.

As you can probably hear from my accent, I come from France.

I used to work for another Alliance Française in the Czech Republic before joining this Alliance Française here in Canada in 2020.

I lived on Gloucester Street for a few years and I feel like part of this beautiful community here in Centretown.

So the Alliance Française is a French Francophone cultural centre.

We have more than a hundred events all year long, movie nights, clubs, virtual events, conferences, concerts and so on and so forth.

We’re also a language school, so we teach French to more than 2,000 people registering every year from all across the national capital region.

We have online and in-person classes and we are an exam centre mostly for immigration purposes. These days people are going to take the French exams, so check us out at af.ca/Ottawa.”

more Stories of People

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
