“My name is Joseph Pierce and I am a frontline worker here at the Shepherds of Good Hope. My primary reason for working here is my own life experience has brought me. I grew up in a foster care system and it was quite rough for me as a child growing up. I ran into a lot of issues with bad people, drugs, and then eventually homelessness. I was kicked out of my home, so through that journey I had to figure out a way to find myself a human being and it was a rough, rough go at it.
But I eventually did do that and I always told myself that when I got myself together and I was able to embark, or not embark but kind of give other people the kind of advice that helped me make it through my rough situations, I always said I was going to do that and that’s what led me to work here at Shepherds of Good Hope.
So this campaign is basically showing various faces of people who have similar experiences in some fashion with people who are experiencing homelessness, experiencing any sort of mental health difficulties or experiencing any sort of drug difficulties and it’s to give people a way to see that there are people behind those faces, there are people behind those stories and it’s a little bit more than just the darkness that we see on the outside.
There is light in all of us and these types of things help bring that darkness to light and I’m more than happy to be a part of that campaign.”
