“Hi, my name is Heather and I’m a Centretown resident for the last six years.
I’ve been living and working in the Centretown area for quite some time, working since 2009 in this area, and it’s a home to me at this time.
I really enjoy the community of Centretown, all the wonderful restaurants, the lovely people.
But I’m also a mental health advocate, I believe in advocacy for mental health because as you can see in our community, there’s many people that are living unhoused, there’s a lot of people struggling with many issues, and that’s not just the people we may see on the street, but it’s a lot of professionals, your neighbours, your friends, your siblings, parents, dealing with these kind of things.
I was working in emergency services and I realized that the need for people to talk about mental health issues from depression to suicidal ideation to PTSD was really high, and it was very, very common for people to be struggling with these things.
However, it wasn’t always talked about.
So writing a book was something I did to help me solidify and condense a lot of strategies that worked for me in my own struggles with mental health, and I wanted to put that on paper so that I could pass that on to someone else and let them realize that they weren’t alone in the struggle.
So I’d invite you to continue the conversation with me, or if you want to ask me about my book, you’re welcome to also please keep the conversation going around mental health.
You’re not alone.”
