“Do you know the impact that one single house plant can have on your space?

Plants make people happy.

It is scientifically proven that being closer to nature, which we so intrinsically need on a biological level, can improve productivity, creativity, depression, and so many other ailments that we so easily dismiss by bringing nature indoors and engaging with it on a regular basis by watering your plant, pruning the leaves, even just watching a new flower come into bloom is so good for our mental health and overall wellbeing.

My name is Emma and I’m the urban botanist, and I believe in the power of plants.

I’ll be the first one to tell you that you do not need to have 100 plus house plants to really feel these benefits.

You don’t need a veggie garden.

You don’t need to live in a forest.

You can truly have one single herb, one single succulent to feel these benefits.

We as human beings, we need it.

We have co-evolved alongside plants.

And the way that society is built right now is that it is built on top of nature and not within it.

And when you start bringing nature indoors and connecting with it in an intentional and more regular basis, really start to feel more grounded, more connected to self, just an overall sense of wellbeing.

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
