We Demand

by Dan Metcalfe and Rob Lariviere

Love is love, and this mural collaboration between artists Dan Metcalfe and Rob Lariviere marks an important turning point in the history of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Canada. Dan was born and raised in Ottawa and works as a freelance designer, illustrator, and artist. In 2010, Dan established his own design studio. Robbie, better known by his alias “FallDown,” has been painting murals for over 15 years and has developed one of the most distinctive and popular styles of murals in Ottawa. On the occasion of the first civil rights protest by queers in Canada, this mural depicts a young Charlie Hill reading the ten demands for equal rights. We are happy to be the home of the 2SLGBTQ+ Village in Ottawa!

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
