“I’m Leah Lavergne. I am a ceramic artist and teacher, and we’re here in Centretown McNabb Community Centre.

So in this studio, this is a place where people come in to learn.

We have about a hundred people come through this studio.

We have a studio potters program where people are able to work independently.

We also run a number of courses here.

Why I love being here is just to watch when I first got into this medium, I knew there was so much to learn in it and I really love to see people get into it and be inspired and learn something new and really dive into something that is quite difficult to step into.

So here’s where all that happens.

I got into ceramics after a small career in professional dance.

I was looking for a new way to be creative and this kind of had both body and art in kind of like two in one and I just fell in love with it instantly.

To find me, we’re here in Centretown at the McNabb Community Centre.

We have someone at the front desk all the time.

You can also DM me. My personal is @highnoonhigh and then you can also email me at [email protected] and I’ll tell you all you need to know about any courses that we run here at McNabb.”

more Stories of People

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
