“Hello Centretown, my name is Eric Chan, AKA Eepmon.

I’m a digital artist and creative entrepreneur and Library and Archives Canada’s first Creator in Residence.

So, the question is posed, what defines a successful artist?

And to be honest with you, it’s a loaded question.

I don’t really know.

But I can tell you, if I look back at my trajectory, it’s that you have to find something for your craft that you really enjoy doing, that you’re passionate about.

And I believe that there’s no rules that constitutes as an art, as art.

Like art has no rules whatsoever, whether you’re painting, whether you’re doing photography, whether you’re a digital artist, whether you’re using even artificial intelligence.

It all spans from the curiosity of the human being and the tools that we use, the culture of the times, we express it through our mediums.

That’s the magic and that’s what I think should be the guiding light for you to continue your endeavour.

One thing for sure, ignore the noise and hey, you have to have haters, otherwise you’re not doing your job.

On that note, I would love to have you to join me and follow me on Instagram @eepmon, see my serendipitous ways and my engagement in the art world.

But yeah, that’s about it.

Thank you for listening and see you later.”

more Stories of People

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
