“So my name is Craig Conoley

I’m a documentarian. I’m a candid street portrait photographer. I love walking the streets of Ottawa and using those same skills to document the things that I see and the things that stand out to me. And everyone sees the world differently and I think that everyone’s story is what highly determines the way in which they see the world and the stories that they see in the world.

It’s something that I teach my students at Algonquin and the Intro of Photography is, you know, what does your story say about you and how does that help you frame the world and see the world in a unique way? And when you go out for a walk with your camera, you know, notice the things that you didn’t notice. Notice the things that stand out. It’s different for everybody and I find that very interesting.

You talk about this idea of authorship and Auteur theory, and directors and photographers have a unique way of seeing the world and that’s your stamp. That is what makes you unique and your photos unique.

So yeah, I’d love you to check out my work and the way I see the world. You can follow me.

You can leave a message on this post and share your stuff because it’s through storytelling and engaging with each other’s story that we build bridges and make life more, I think, unique and fulfilling.

So thank you and we will see you out there with your cameras.”

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
