Some places invite you to slow down the moment you walk in.

The lighting shifts. The pace changes. You take your time.

In Centretown, Planet Botanix is one of those places.

Founded by Heather Garrod in the spring of 2005, the shop and holistic wellness space has spent the last 20 years helping people explore a more balanced, intentional way of living.

A space to explore

A visit to Planet Botanix isn’t meant to be rushed.

It’s a space you move through – taking in different scents, textures, and energy as you go. From artisan body care made in-house to crystals, tarot and oracle decks, jewelry, and other curated offerings, each section invites curiosity.

Staff are there when you need guidance, but the experience is just as much about personal exploration.

For many, it feels less like shopping and more like a meditative journey.

A wellness hub in the heart of Centretown

What many people don’t realize is that Planet Botanix extends far beyond what’s on the shelves.

Behind the retail space, the shop opens up into a wellness clinic – home to a rotating group of practitioners offering services like Reiki, tarot and intuitive readings, reflexology, sound healing, and more.

The space also hosts yoga classes, workshops, and community events – from guided meditations to hands-on learning experiences in aromatherapy and holistic practices.

It’s this combination of products, services, and programming that makes Planet Botanix feel less like a store and more like a hub – a place where people can explore holistic wellness in a way that’s personal to them.

From plants to a broader practice

When Planet Botanix first opened, the focus looked a little different.

Alongside holistic products, the store also sold plants, seeds, and garden accessories – rooted in Heather’s personal connection to gardening as a form of meditation.

As the business moved into Centretown and grew with the community, that focus evolved.

Customers began seeking out more metaphysical products – crystals, tarot, and tools for spiritual and personal growth – and the shop adapted in response.

That willingness to evolve while staying grounded in its core purpose has shaped what Planet Botanix is today.

A shift in path

Before opening the shop, Heather worked as an archaeological conservator for the government.

But over time, she felt pulled toward something different – a path rooted in her work as an aromatherapist and energy practitioner, and a desire to help people live more empowered lives.

Planet Botanix became the space where those skills and intentions could come together.

Growing with the neighbourhood

Over the past two decades, the business has weathered change – including challenges no one could have predicted.

Through it all, Planet Botanix has remained a steady presence in Centretown – not just as a business, but as part of the community.

Looking ahead, Heather’s goal is simple: continue growing alongside the neighbourhood and deepen the role the shop plays as more people explore alternative medicine and holistic health.

Built on Small Business

Built on Small Business is about more than longevity.

It’s about care. Craft. Responsibility. Long-term commitment.

It’s about businesses that understand they don’t exist in isolation – that they’re part of a neighbourhood ecosystem, shaped by and shaping the people around them.

Centretown runs on places like Planet Botanix.

Spaces that invite you to slow down. Reflect. Explore. Connect.

And in Centretown, it’s built on people finding their own path.
