“Hi, my name is Alex. I am 28 years old. I live in the Byward Market, but I work in Centretown. I really enjoy Ottawa. I’ve lived here for 10 years now. I moved here to study in French at the University of Ottawa. And back then Centretown was like the big kids area. Like once you graduated from university, you had a full time job, you’d kind of been working for a few years, then you moved to the other side of the canal. Whereas Lowertown, Sandy Hill was the neighbourhood for people who were still in school and hadn’t really figured their life out yet.

So I’m still on that side, but I like coming to Centretown and feeling a little bit more grown up.I still carry that image with me.

I care a lot about climate change. I am a climate activist involved in a case against the Ontario government.

And I enjoy how people in Centretown, despite different political opinions, all are really caring, passionate people, many of whom are equally passionate as I am about the environment. So that’s something that is really meaningful to me. And I love that I don’t have a long commute. I talked to my colleagues about coming in, they have to leave at 6 a.m. in order to get to work on time. And I just walk and it’s 20 minutes or I take the LRT when it’s working and that’s great.

Thanks so much for listening. Feel free to leave me a comment about what you love most about Centretown and hope you have a great day.”

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
