by The Paint It Up! Program

One of Ottawa’s most popular bike shops has a mural of a cyclist on the side of the building that was created as part of the city’s graffiti prevention strategies. Developed in collaboration with Christie Lake Kids, a registered charitable organization that provides free recreation and skill-building activities to economically disadvantaged children and youth, the Paint It Up! Program is a City of Ottawa initiative. As the front wheel of a bicycle provides direction, the rear wheel is required to provide drive. Similarly, as mentors and artists from this programme inspired the youth to stay on the right path, the youth then pushed through to demonstrate their abilities. Among the results of that effort is the creation of this mural.

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
