SUMMARY:Art Hang
DESCRIPTION:⭐️ ART HANG is an art making and crafting musical event: live instrumental music will set the mood for a creative flow state. \nHave you started a project you just can’t seem to put the time aside to finish? Is there a creative spark in your mind you need to release? Do you find it hard to make the time to be playful creatively and just MAKE something? \nART HANG might be the solution for you! This event is for creatives of all levels who might benefit from a communal space set with the intention to create. Come toil away at the knitting project you’ve been meaning to finish\, get that watercolour painting started that you can see so clearly in your mind\, or zone out while you doodle and colour to the chill vibes of live instrumental music. \n🎶 \nThis session of ART HANG will welcome the collaborative melding of Ottawa based musicians Sam Westcott and Chris Pond of @theinternetcelebs \nAfter a brief run in the WWE as World Tag-Team Champions\, Sam (@nvrtd_wrld) and Chris (@chrispondmusic) decided to give up putting people through tables to focus on a more sensitive art form: improvised instrumental music. Albeit a lonelier venture\, the by’s have kept at it over the years\, appearing initially as Ataraxia: a duo scoring independent films and appearing live in the bold jazz\, and new classical scene in St. John’s\, Newfoundland. Now\, they make up one half of the jazz/post-rock group Internet Celebrities; a dynamic quasi-collective currently at work on their biggest project yet. (Even bigger than defending the belts). These long-time collaborators play music that draws on all (or none) (or some) of these experiences; making sounds that become entangled with the moment & space they occupy. \nWith your creative tools in hand\, join us SEPT 9th at Art House Café from 7-9PM (doors @ 6:30) @arthouse.ottawa\, tickets in BIO. \nColouring pencils\, colouring pages and paper will be provided. \n(posters by @laurachanelart) \nSocial Media \norganized by: @laurachanelart \nTickets: CAD $15 tickets: Sairyo (Limited quantity!). If the event has not sold out online\, there will be tickets available at the counter. \nYour ticket guarantees you a seat in the house but not necessarily a seat with a direct line of sight to the performers. We recommend coming early to snag a spot or if you need accommodations\, like a guaranteed seat for accessibility reasons\, to please email us at ac.efacesuohtraehtobfsctd-72b7fc@stneve at least 72 hours before the event. \nTicket refunds or date transfers are not available. \nIMPORTANT ACCESSIBILITY INFO \nWe provide gender-neutral washrooms. We have one wheelchair accessible washroom. There is no wheelchair ramp. There is a set of 8 stairs to get into the building (7 steps\, small landing\, and then an 8th step). Once inside\, the whole cafe floor is flat\, with the exception of our small room to the side\, which is a small step down. \nWe are licensed to provide alcohol\, but serve a variety of non-alcoholic options. \nThis event takes place on the traditional unceded\, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Folk Ft. Malia Rogers & Woods of Light
DESCRIPTION:Friday Night Folk is a bi-monthly concert series at Art House Cafe. On the first Friday of every other month Art House Cafe will feature two folk acts\, hosted by local singer-songwriter Matt Gower. \nThis edition FNF showcases folk acts Malia Rogers & Woods of Light \nSponsored by CKCU fm. \nBios\n \nMalia Rogers:\nhttps://maliarogers.ca/ \nNova Scotia raised\, Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Malia Rogers has a clear musical mission: be the first in the room to drop her shield\, and in doing so\, move others to lower their own. \nWith sonic references ranging from Feist and Aoife O’Donovan to Dan Mangan and Noah Kahan\, Malia’s conversational folk offerings carefully balance melancholy and hope – transforming rooms of strangers into rooms of kin with precise lyricism\, warmed-honey vocals\, fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo. \nMalia’s debut EP Chameleon draws on folk\, bluegrass\, and celtic influences to explore enduring themes of identity\, relationships\, grief\, growth\, and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of our lives. The six-song collection is “a sonic snapshot of becoming — a musical tide chart that captures the motion of identity\, grief\, and love in all their patient\, persistent forms”. \nWith compassion and gentle wit\, Malia invites you into the corners of her heart the way she would invite you into her family home on the East Coast: put down the heavy bags\, stay as long as you need\, and take something with you when you go. \nWoods of Light: \nhttps://woodsoflight.bandcamp.com \nWoods of Light is the indie-folk solo project of Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Gunther. Operating from his home studio\, Ravenwood\, in Val-des-Monts\, Quebec\, he single-handedly writes\, records\, and mixes his music. \nMatt Gower:\nhttps://Mattgower.net \nMatt Gower is a Hard Folk singer-songwriter from Ottawa\, Ontario. Over the years\, Matt has embodied the folk tradition by blending an array of styles into his music. Elements of alt-country\, old-time Appalachian tunes\, bluegrass & roots-rock underscore a powerful voice that’s vulnerable\, honest & dynamic. The truth\, technique & talent he’s come to embrace are all hard-earned. \nCurrently Matt Gower is the host and curator of CKCU Presents Friday Night Folk\, a bi-monthly concert series at Art House Cafe which features a diverse range of folk musicians. Matt also hosts the Hard Folk Podcast shining a light on the working artists making an impact on the Ottawa Music Scene. \nMatt Gower has been involved in the Ottawa music community for over two decades. His songwriting incorporates folk\, alt-country and old-time music weaved between timeless lyrics and dynamic vocals. Over the years Matt has performed with garage-folk band Capital Grass and the No Men and folk duo Fathom the Sea around the National Capital Region and Western Quebec. Throughout Matt’s musical journeys\, a constant thread has held true: nothing carries more weight than connecting with an audience through the power of song. \nSocial Media \n@mattgowerottawa
