Description

Rooted is a genre-blending, culture-rich dance party centering the music of the South Asian global diaspora.

We're spotlighting the rich and diverse musical tapestry from across South Asia and the global diaspora, bringing you a taste of the sounds emerging from the culture that is deeply Rooted in heritage and blended with the modern soundscapes driving dancefloors around the world. This is where the sounds of our ancestors meet the pulse of modern nightlife—from Chutney to UK Garage to Punjabi jungle. From South Indian percussion to dancehall, techno, soca, and more.

We’re telling stories through basslines, drum patterns, and samples passed down across oceans, borders, and generations.

This event is for everyone regardless of your background, story, lived experience or connection to the culture. This is our love letter to the global South Asian community celebrating our roots unapologetically in the most South Asian way possible, through music, dancing, food and community.

Centretown would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is built on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation.

The Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole.
