“I am Elsa. I was an artist at the FigureWorks 2025 or a finalist in the show. FigureWorks is a biannual competition where artists all over Canada are welcome to submit a piece of work in any medium that has to do with the human form or figure. So I submitted this work.
It was at Wallack Galleries in Centretown.
I am a photo-based artist. I started being interested in textiles and fabric and combining my photography with that. So this is one of my first creations. It was a photo-based image transfer onto repurposed fabric. And then I am using my photography, so my memories, moments, and putting it on top. So I am playing with memory. And also the process is quite fragile and delicate. You have to be careful.
So during the process, I don’t know if you can tell, but it’s not perfect. The fabric is creased. It’s fraying. The transfer, the whole image isn’t there. So it kind of also plays into memory where, you know, you don’t remember everything. Your memories, they fade. When you look back on certain things, they might change, stuff like that.
I mainly am on Instagram. So you can follow me on Instagram. My handle is @efwportfolio. Reach out if you’d like. Give me a follow. Comments. If you’re an artist especially, that would be cool.”
